An Austin police officer fatally shot a dog while responding to a domestic violence call. The incident, which has sparked outrage and even a facebook fanpage entitled “Justice for Cisco”, occurred after being given the wrong address by a dispatcher.
On Saturday afternoon, a passerby took note of a domestic dispute and called 911. Unfortunately, that passerby gave the dispatcher the wrong address. When APD officer Thomas Griffin responded, the first person he encountered was Michael Paxton and his pet Blue Heeler, Cisco. Officer Griffin, reportedly, exited the vehicle with his gun drawn at Paxton which apparently made the Officer feel threatened.
Here is where shit turned left. Paxton reportedly told the officer that Cisco wouldn’t bite him, but the officer felt threatened anyhow which lead to the fatal shooting of the dog. This is an absolutely horrible story and if it were my dog I would probably feel dreadful right about now. HOWEVER, we need to put this in perspective. There is a scale of outrage that I actually JUST made up. This is about a 7. Trayvon? Off the charts. Perhaps I have too much melanin to care that deeply but *shrugs* oh well.
